EN 15343

Spain’s Law 7/2022 introduced a tax on non-reusable plastic packaging, which became effective from 1 January 2023. Under this regulation, companies can reduce their tax burden—potentially up to 100%—based on the verified use of recycled plastic in their packaging. To be eligible, the recycled content must be certified in accordance with the EN 15343 standard by an accredited certification body. As a result, many Spanish companies now require their suppliers to hold EN 15343 certification to comply with legal requirements and support their sustainability commitments.

The EN 15343 Plastics Standard defines the requirements for traceability, quality control, and calculation of recycled content in plastic products. It establishes a structured system to track recycled materials throughout the supply chain, ensuring transparency and reliability in reporting recycled plastic usage.
