SFA Chain of Custody

Launched in 2015, the Sustainable Fiber Alliance (SFA) Standard is the first comprehensive sustainability framework for cashmere. It ensures full traceability from herders in Mongolia and China through to the final product and was developed in line with ISEAL best practice guidelines through extensive stakeholder consultation. The SFA Chain of Custody Standard focuses on maintaining traceability and integrity across the supply chain, enabling credible claims for certified cashmere content. It also supports environmental protection, improved livelihoods for herding communities, and high standards of animal welfare. Built on the Content Claim Standard developed by Textile Exchange, the system ensures consistent and reliable tracking of certified material.

Key Benefits  Increased value through certified supply chains  Better connection with processors, traders, and buyers  Opportunities for improved pricing of certified fiber

To access these benefits, producer or herder organizations must be certified under both the SFA Cashmere Standard and the SFA Chain of Custody Standard, ensuring proper handling and traceability of certified fiber throughout the supply chain.
